ABOUT ME
hi friends,
Welcome to my world, where the essence of who I am traces back to the beautiful landscapes of Mount Shasta, California. Raised by the river and parents who valued simple living, my upbringing was influenced by lots of time outside, with community and music, ceremony and nourishing food.
With a father who owned a whitewater rafting company and a mother who practiced massage therapy, our family cherished healthy, simplistic and intentional living.
When my mom transitioned unexpectedly from this world in 1996, and my sister and I were just six and nine, it opened a door to how I personally relate to life, loss and love today. There is no manual for how to navigate the journey of life, because there is no one way. There is no right way. It is a constant dance. An ebb and flow.
My life has been shaped by many things; grief being a main. What I have learned through my own emotional process, is that it is a process. The care that works for one of us doesn’t for another. This is why it’s always felt right to leave space for listening. To be gentle and trust how I’m being guided to walk this path called life.
I imagine every single one of us struggles with something - challenges, hardships + suffering that probably happens behind the scenes in silence.
I share all of this in the ‘about me’ section of my website because if you landing here can serve anything - my wish is that it lets you know you are not alone. I am on the journey with you, surfing the waves of this beautiful, messy life experience. And together, we can support each other.
My yoga journey
I struggled my whole adolescence to feel like I truly belonged. At the age of 20, I found myself in college in Lake Tahoe, battling depression and feeling very unwell. My quest for healing and feeling better led me to the path of yoga. A friend invited me to a class, which I remember not loving. But for whatever reason I decided to give it another shot, and the second time around I discovered an environment that felt like home. Despite the weight of depression and a reluctance to engage with the world, yoga classes became my solace and a safe place where I could find peace amidst the discomfort and the pain of my internal world.
Now, 13 years later, my personal yoga journey has evolved into a daily devotion and a pillar of support, always returning me home.
Thank you yoga. Thank you body. Thank you breath. Thank you for helping me be real - to be present with what’s here, to be honest with what is, to come back into balance, to be renewed by your wisdom and support me in becoming a safe and supportive body and mind to live in.
My teaching journey
In my mid 20s, after years of immersing myself in the world of yoga and holistic wellness, a deeper calling became clear. To share. I believe that once something supports you on a cellular level, it desires to live through you. Wisdom is meant to be circulated, and I was filled with inspiration to share the transformative power of a practice and a way of life that had deeply impacted me.
I am a certified 200hr ERYT, with over 10,000 hours of active teaching experience in the past six years. I’m currently in the process of completing my 500hr teacher training with Devon Sweeney and Jeremy Wolf through Prana Vinyasa School of Yoga in Denver.
My first training began under the guidance of Gina Caputo and Julia Clarke, founder of the Colorado School of Yoga, honoring the vibrant history of Yoga with a focus on Integrated Vinyasa. “This style emerged from a desire to share a practice infinitely adaptable and accessible, intentional and reflective of the present moment.” - Gina Caputo.
Other modalities I have studied through extensive continuing education include somatic stress release, embodied meditation, sound healing techniques, and lunar arts practices of yoga including Yoga Nidra, Restorative, Yin and lunar flows.
Living in Rhythm
Living in rhythm has been the emphasis of my journey as both yoga student and teacher. To live in rhythm comes from the Ayurvedic philosophy - aligning your daily life, practices and rituals with the inner and outer seasons and cycles of life to create more balance, health and harmony.
To learn how to cultivate safety and support from within is true empowerment. As a yoga teacher, I am dedicated to helping individuals explore the healing power of their breath and attune to the intelligence of their body.
The practice of yoga is so much more than being the most flexible in the room. Over time, it helps us remember that it’s not about what we’re doing, but about how we are showing up in relationship to our life. It is a powerful path that teaches us how to cultivate awareness, inner listening, compassion, and trust living wisdom.
At the end of the day, I believe what we all desire is connection and belonging. And every time I attend a yoga class or teach one, I am reminded of the transformative power of movement, meditation and breathing as a way to cultivate connection, come back into our hearts and experience a felt sense of well-being.
